Feb. 20th Saturday Summary

This Saturday at ISLA, the Pre-K class spent the day learning about the police, such as where they work and what they do. A police officer even visited the class to speak with the students and answer their questions! At the end of the day, the students went outside to play a game of cops and robbers.

The 1st and 2nd Grade class spent the morning learning about archeology before heading outside to do an excavation of their own. They uncovered rocks, dinosaurs, and more! They brought their discoveries inside to investigate them and record them in their notebooks.

The Escuela Secundaria learned about volcanoes and the Legend of Popocatepetl and Iztaccíhuatl, the two highest volcanoes in the western hemisphere, both of which are in Mexico City. Then, each student got to make a volcano out of a balloon and chocolate.

Last but not least, a woman from Charlotte's Latin American Coalition came to speak with parents today. She explained executive actions on immigration, as well as Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
