¡Primer día del segundo semestre!

Classes resumed for the first day of our second semester at ISLA and activities ranged from dancing, churro-making, and telling traditional stories. A few of the classes learned about Three Kings' Day and enjoyed a traditional Mexican cake, or rosca, made especially for the occasion. In the kindergarten class, one of the instructors talked to the children about her home in Mexico and the traditions that she grew up with. In the first and second grade classroom, students sang and danced while learning about vowels. In the middle schoolers' class, the students wrote about what they did over the winter break and also learned about the story of the three Kings. The third and fourth grade class even made churros! We were also very excited welcome Will Brinson from Durham's Cooperative Extension to the Parent Community Resource Program this week. He spoke about charter, magnet, and public school options in Durham and how to pick the best school for your child. Everyone was enthusiastic about starting another great semester of Spanish immersion and multicultural education!
